The Professional Certificate in Maritime Security

Acadia University’s Professional Certificate in Maritime Security (PCMS) will provide a clear and coherent source of education and training for those seeking to enter the maritime security sector or those seeking to broaden their knowledge within maritime security.

Maritime security embraces the protection of maritime operations (e.g. port security, ship security) as well as the preservation of the marine environment (e.g. pollution control, protection of endangered species).

The PCMS Program builds the candidate’s base knowledge in the following academic areas: Law and Legal Governance, Environment, Cyber/IT, and Business Management.  As well, a series of practitioner courses will be offered by the International Association of Maritime Security Professionals registered in the United Kingdom including Maritime Infrastructure and Operations, Monitoring and Compliance, and Security Design, which are taken sequentially.

In this part-time professional certificate, you will complete courses as part of a cohort, fully online and asynchronous, supported by online resources. Most candidates are expected to complete the program within eighteen months to two years. The Program length will depend on number of courses selected and the candidate’s ability to take courses either concurrently or sequentially.
